Hike Day a Great Success

By September 21, 2008 3 Comments

We had another wonderfully successful and thoroughly enjoyable Fall Hike Day on Saturday, October 11, 2008.  Close to 70 people attended the event, which raised $1,055.  Participants comprised current and former campers, parents, current and former counselors, and friends.  We hiked McClung Mountain, Mine Mountain, the Pompey Mountain/Mt. Pleasant loop, and Whetstone Ridge and enjoyed a spectacularly clear autumn day.  Approximately 56 people sat down to dinner in the L.S., where, in addition to fresh turkey from Joel Salatin’s Polyface Farm and cranberries which Matthew Bain and Flip Coulling had picked the week before, we dined on mashed potatoes and gravy, cucumber salad, carrots, lentils, croissants, and apple cobbler with fresh whipped cream.  Many, many thanks to Paul Cabe and Leigh Ann Beavers for their exceptional generosity in providing the food and preparing it along with veteran cook Chris Chamberlin.
